Vocal Technique
One misconception that I would like to throw out the window is that ‘if you weren’t born a good singer, you cannot become one.'
This is absolutely NOT TRUE!
Singing is a skill that can be taught and trained.
E v e r y o n e can learn how to sing.
We might have different starting points but everyone can learn to sing and more importantly, enjoy the process.

Complete Vocal Technique
The Complete Vocal Technique (CVT) was born in Denmark 30 years ago by Cathrine Sadolin and is the method I've learned for three years in Copenhagen.
Based on one of the most comprehensive research of the human voice, CVT brings a new and refreshing way of looking at the voice and developing it. This image below can show how we can map the voice using 4 levels, each level is based on the one before it, just like when building a house.
Foundation - 3 overall principles
When we integrate those into our muscle memory
we ensure a healthy and safe vocal production.
This way we can avoid getting hoarse or losing our voice
and sing without getting tired.
4 vocal modes
On top of our healthy foundation, we can learn to produce many different sound qualities! You can think of the modes as 4 different gears in a car, the higher the gear the more intense the sound of the voice.
Just like each gear needs a specific speed to work properly, each mode demands specific support, vocal tract settings, and vowels.
We all can sing and speak in all modes.
Sound color
We all have our own natural sound color thanks
to our unique anatomical structure of the vocal tract.
Learning to control different parts of the vocal tract - the tongue, soft palate, nasal passage, epiglottis funnel (where we twang), etc can help us manipulate and change the sound color of our voice.
Vocal effects
after building an amazing house and coloring it however we want, we can add a rooftop where all the good stuff happens - vocal effects.
We add them to convey emotions, to bring our creativity and personality into a song and it’s important to be able to a) produce them safely
b) being able to turn them on and off on demand.
You control your voice and not the other way around.
That is a very short explanation of an entire technique and method.
Alongside the technique itself, this education included vocal anatomy, acoustics, the scientific research behind the technique which proves it's science-based, and pedagogics - i.e the art of teaching. Each person has their own unique way of learning, practicing, and progressing and a good vocal trainer will decode what is the best way to communicate the vocal tasks and techniques to the singer/student so that they can make the most out of each session and self-practice.
